How to auto refresh a page in Chrome

Chrome has no built-in auto-refresh setting. Here are your options.

1. A self-refreshing HTML file (fragile)

You can create a local HTML file with <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="60"> that loads the page in an iframe, but many sites block being framed and you may lose your login. It's a workaround, not a solution.

2. Use an auto-refresh extension (recommended)

An extension keeps the timer running across reloads. With Vigilo:

  1. Install Vigilo from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open the page you want to refresh and click the Vigilo icon.
  3. Pick the interval and press start. The badge shows it's active.
  4. Optional: add a keyword or change alert so you get a notification instead of watching the tab.

Tips

  • Use the longest interval that works for you. Refreshing every few seconds can get you rate-limited and puts load on the site.
  • Check the site's terms of use; some forbid automated access.
  • Unsaved form input is lost on reload.
